What does my $25 a month go toward?

The funds each donor contributes toward sponsoring a student, covers tuition and meal costs for all the students.  Included in tuition expenses are teacher salaries, school administration salaries and teacher supplies.

How is Open Door able to operate for so much less than other sponsorship programs?

At this point, additional funding is coming in from other sources to supplement the ministry at Open Door.  While all children at Open Door School have access to medical care through Open Door Clinic, the clinic’s funding is not included in your $25 per month contribution.  Currently, funds are coming from another source to pay for school books, which cost about $40 per child. Parents are responsible to purchase or make the school uniform for their own child.  Support is raised separately to cover staff salaries and expenses of Open Door Haiti in the US.  All of these efforts significantly defray the cost of our school sponsorship program.

If I miss a monthly contribution, will the children still get educated and fed?

35% of our school sponsors opt to pay a full year’s sponsorship fee up front.  This allows us to begin the school year with operating capital, assuring that occasional donor lapses in giving never is going to be pulled from the program because of a lapse in giving, but please do catch up with your sponsorship commitment as you are able.

How can I learn more about my sponsor child?

While $25 a month is what it takes for us to educate and feed a child at Open Door, we view our program more as a School Sponsorship Program than a Child Sponsorship Program.  Funds are sent each month for the operation of the school in its entirety, not to individual accounts for specific children.  The picture you have received of a child from Open Door to pray for is meant to be a tangible reminder of the difference you are making in the life of the children in Haiti. Our affordable school sponsorship level is kept low because we have not set up the intricate administrative infrastructure required to run a child sponsorship program like World Vision’s or Compassion Intl.  However, we do want to make your contribution to the lives of the children at Open Door as tangible and personal as we possibly can.  With this goal in mind, we have established  a time for you to send communication/gifts to the child whose picture you have received:, the Christmas Shoebox drive.  Look for information about this opportunity in the October 2009 newsletter.

Does Open Door have other ministries besides the School?

Yes.  Open Door has a diverse array of ministries in Haiti that spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.  Our quarterly newsletter will keep you informed and up to date on what God is doing through the ministry.

What if I am no longer able to continue with my school sponsorship commitment?

Please notify us as soon as possible so that we are able to find additional sponsors for this life changing ministry.
